How To Find The Right Meditation Posture For Your Body

My tendency to practise on the floor came from having a strict routine, this was the place I could get into the zone. Although it became apparent I was leaving little room for adaptation, especially for my body. So why not lye on the bed? I’ve always told myself not to lye on the bed in the daytime, after all, it can increase sleepiness and the tendency to stay there too long. Telling myself this constantly meant I never truly felt relaxed in my practise and meditation is about relaxing into the experience. There are so many different positions and aids we can use to help our body. You have…

‘know I’m not faking’ I’m experiencing dissociation

Explaining dissociation To start this post I would like to explain the differences between dissociation and its different types.  Although non-epileptic seizures fall into the dissociation category that has not always been the case. Now more commonly named dissociative seizures, which is better fitted and puts the condition into the dissociative category. There is a lot of confusion and stigma around the condition namely because even doctors have used the fake word or make you feel like you are putting them on because they do not appear on an ENG. This is so UNTRUE. Dissociation is widely misunderstood and stigmatised like the majority of mental health conditions. Dissociative seizures are…

The year that changed my life

In this final post about my diagnosis journey, I talk about how my whole life changed for the better after being admitted to Coventry hospital for four months. Although it defiantly was not easy and I had to face up to the truths I rather wanted to avoid. This year would change my life as I knew it. Breaking point I got to the point where everything was too much to bear, the seizures and the chronic migraines controlled my life. I had got to the point where my mental health was at a serious point and I just couldn’t take anymore. My consultant told me to take a trip…

I am always on fast forward, the time is flying by and before I know it I will be…

Showing Kindness for Mental health Awareness

BE KIND, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about~unknown The theme surrounding this year’s mental health awareness week is kindness, so this year I’d like to encourage a sense of kindness to those suffering from mental health conditions. Below are some tips to share with others about helping those with small acts of kindness. Even after years of battling my mental health I’ve fallen into not so helpful words category, I’m always one for wanting to help and give advice, but just because something works for me, does not mean it will help them and sometimes the worse things to say, are ‘this helped me,…

Part one of my diagnosis journey

. Why open up discussions about functional disorders? After a while of pondering over to even post about my condition, I realized I’m here to help others suffering from long term health conditions whether that be physical or mental health. My journey is the reason I’m blogging today, it’s the reason I’ve learned from mistakes, taken action over my condition, and grown into a more self-aware individual. It is the basis for the knowledge I’ve gained about living with chronic illness. I will admit my nerves around discussing functional disorders, as I’m sure a lot of people are aware there is a stigma attached and a lot of us feel…
